Beatles Auditioned 50 Years Ago and John Lennon with Zappa!

It was 50 years ago on today (June 6th, 1962) that the Beatles successfully auditioned for EMI Records at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The group, which included original drummer Pete Best, performed a handful of songs, two of which have survived the years -- a take of "Besame Mucho," and an early version of "Love Me Do."

Also on this date, June 6th, 1971 that John Lennon and Yoko Ono made an impromptu appearance at New York's Fillmore East with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Lennon and Ono released the tapes of what they thought was a jam session with Zappa on their 1972 album Live Jam, which was included as part of their double set Some Time In New York City.
